James Joseph Prosser

James Joseph Prosser, 68, formerly of Mound Valley, passed away at 7:34 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2018 at Montgomery Place in Independence.

He was born March 3, 1950 in Augusta, Kansas to Frank and Agnes Ann (Gegan) Prosser. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Parsons where he grew up and attended St. Patrick's Catholic School.

He worked as a self-employed mechanic before moving to Iowa where he farmed. He then returned to Mound Valley where he continued working as a mechanic.

He enjoyed fishing, working on and restoring cars and motorcycles, hunting, singing, and writing songs and poems.

He and Jackie Stricklin were married on August 16, 1969. They later divorced.

His companion of 23 years – Judy Hazen of Parsons, KS and her grandchildren, Bailey Gudde and Raven Gudde

One Son – James W. Prosser of Nashville, TN and his two children

Three Daughters – April D. Prosser of Fayetteville, AR and her children, Sadie Prosser and Sydney Woodman

Angie Prosser of Fayetteville, AR and her children, Hunter Prosser, Spencer Prosser, and Connor Whinery

Eddi Conner of Springdale, AR and her three children

One Great-Granddaughter – Eloise Whinery

One Brother – Harold Prosser of Ferndale, WA

Two Sisters – Dorothy Schofield of Chalk Hill, PA

Marjorie Barrager of Independence, KS

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Howard; and three sisters, Donna, Janice, and Mildred.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
