James A. Woods, 82, of Chanute, died at 2:40 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Chanute Healthcare Center in Chanute, Kansas. He had been in failing health.
He was born November 9, 1925, in McClain County, Oklahoma, to Plaze and Nancy Jane (Collins) Woods. He grew up in Oklahoma before moving to Altamont and later Missouri.
For a time, he worked at the elevator in Altamont. He later worked as a truck driver for several years before retiring in 1990.
He loved to fish and especially enjoyed telling "big" stories about fishing. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2008, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
