Jane England, 83, of Altamont, died at 3:58 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born August 28, 1930 in Portis, Kansas to Ernest Glenn and Wilma Augusta (Schoen) Cunningham. She grew up and attended school in Downs, Kansas where she was a 1948 graduate of Downs High School. She then attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
On October 7, 1951 she and Harold E. England were married in Lawrence, Kansas. In 1966, their family moved to Labette County, Kansas where she had lived since. She was school librarian at Labette County High School in Altamont for a time until earning her Bachelor's degree in Education at Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg. She then taught Physical Education and Health and coached tennis and basketball for a few years while earning her Master's degree. Jane then served as a guidance counselor at LCHS until retiring in May of 1992.
She had attended the Altamont Christian Church and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority where she had served as president. Through the years, she had served on the Altamont Swimming Pool Board, Altamont Library Board and had volunteered with Girl Scouts. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and sports. Jane loved playing bridge and especially enjoyed teaching bridge lessons.

Two Great-Grandsons – Lincoln McDonald and Ryker McDonald
Two Brothers – Ed Cunningham and his wife, Jane Henderson, NV
Bill Cunningham Austin, TX
One Sister – Bonnie Arrowsmith and her husband, Rex Tucson, AZ
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold England, on April 6, 2011; and one sister, Betty Jennings.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
