Janette Marie "Janie" Jakee, 75, of Chetopa entered into rest on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born on February 2, 1946, Ground Hog Day, to Charles William and Leona Marie (Settles) Sherwood in Kansas City, Kansas.
Over the years, Janie worked at different jobs including driving children around on the Head Start bus, building bombs at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant to support the U.S. military, frosting donuts at the local Casey's General and frying up crispitos at Carm and Dale's. In 2008, she retired from Amazon. To kill some time after retirement, Janie enjoyed wheeling and dealing Meals on Wheels to her local gossip girls.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, who were her heart and soul. Other favorite activities included gardening, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, participating in the Community Bible Church sale, and grillin' and chillin' with the Mulberry Gang.
Survivors include:
Two children – Dustin Bradley Moses and his wife, Marsha, of Oswego, Kansas
Tina JoAnne Napier of Chetopa, Kansas
Five grandchildren – CheyAnne Kepner and her husband, Derek; Delisa Harms and her husband, Jake; Nicholas Moses and his wife, Brittany; Aaron Allison and his wife, Karrissa; and Lakota Huls
Three great-grandchildren – Guthrie Kepner, Gentry Harms and Karlee Sue Allison
One brother – Don Ventle
One sister – Charlene Ortner of Columbus, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Richael Dawn "Chigger" Moses; and two brothers.
A private memorial service and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
