Jeanne M. Higgins, 89, of Altamont, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born February 1, 1925 at Ford City, Pennsylvania to Arthur Joseph Chauvaux and Sarabelle Virginia (Hughes) Chauvaux. She grew up there and attended school and graduated from high school in 1942. She enjoyed puzzles and crocheting. She had also enjoyed fishing in the past.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont where she had been active in White Cross and American Baptist Women in the past.
She was united in marriage to George H. Higgins on December 27, 1974 at Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2011.
Survivors include:
One Son: Lynn Nolder - Bartlesville, Oklahoma
One Daughter: Linda Wolgamott and her husband, John – Altamont, Kansas
Six Grandchildren
Sixteen Great-grandchildren
Two Great-great-grandchildren
Four Brothers: Raymond Chauvaux – Columbus, Georgia
Richard Chauvaux – Cary, North Carolina
Edward Chauvaux – Knightville, North Carolina
David Chauvaux – Tiffin, Ohio
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one daughter, Carol Deming who died October 30, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette City, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Memorial contributions are suggested to the RBC Ministries and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 63757.
