Jennie "Maxine" Schell, 88, a longtime resident of Altamont, died at 8:45 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2008, at the Oswego Nursing & Rehab Center where she had resided the past three years.
She was born September 26, 1920, on a farm in South Valeda, Indian Territory, Oklahoma, to C. T. and Josie (Rosson) Kastler.
As a young girl, she grew up there and attended Thompson School. While her brother was serving in World War II, she remained on the family farm, until marriage, where she helped her mother with household chores and assisted her father with farm work.
Through the years, she provided care for numerous family members. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and always had a genuine concern for others.
She and Roy Schell were married March 11, 1946, in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1980.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Dale and Leroy Kastler; and two sons, Roy, Jr. and Ace Schell.
Private graveside services will be held by the family. Burial will be in the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont after 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2008.
