Jerry W. Doherty, 71, of St. Paul, passed away at 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2014 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
He was born February 28, 1943 in Chetopa, Kansas to Edward C. Doherty, Sr. and Georgia (Bates) Doherty. He grew up in Chetopa where he attended schools and graduated from Chetopa High School.
Following high school, he moved to Coffeyville where he worked at the refinery until retiring in 1970 due to failing health.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chetopa. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing.
He and Nancy Hunt were married August 28, 1961. They later divorced. He and Joan McGuire were married. They later divorced.
Survivors include one son, Darren Doherty and his wife, Leanna, of Farlington, KS; one daughter, Jeri Heitman and her husband, Chris, of Walnut, KS; eleven grandchildren, Brett Giefer and wife, Kayla, Pittsburg, KS, Brandon Giefer and fiancée, Kristen Colyer, Kansas City, MO, Breah Schibi and husband, Jeff, Parsons, KS, Ethan, Carter and Abi Doherty, Farlington, KS, Garrett Newberry, Farlington, KS, Niki Michael and husband, Phillip, St. Paul, KS, Kerri Heitman, Walnut, KS, Tressa Beezley and husband, Zach, Girard, KS, and Josh Newberry, Kansas City, MO; five great-grandchildren, Michael Giefer, Lila and Lathan Michael, Preston Heitman and Briggs Beezley; one brother, Edward C. Doherty, Jr., of Independence, KS; three sisters, Norma Swank, of Oswego, KS, Mary Fricke and her husband, Jim, and Joyce Sullivan, all of Coffeyville, KS.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dave Doherty, and two sisters, Daisy Harris and MayBelle Doherty.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
