Jesse Howard Foister

Jesse Howard Foister, 102, of Edna, died at 4:45 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville.

He was born August 21, 1908, in Aurora, Missouri, to Ed and Emma (Carl) Foister. As a young boy at the age of ten, his family moved to Edna where he attended school.

On May 25, 1929, he married Alta May Hayes in Edna. Following marriage, they continued to live in the Edna area where they farmed for several years. In 1958, they moved to rural Coffeyville where Mr. Foister was employed as the caretaker of the Cedar Bluff Camp where he retired in 1974 following 18 years of service. After retirement, the couple returned to Edna.

He was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church and the Edna Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his chosen profession of farming and spending time with his family and friends.

Two Sons – Howard L. Foister and wife, Jessie Edna, KS
John R. Foister and wife, Martha Edna, KS
One Daughter – Dorothy F. Ledbetter and husband, James Edna, KS
Six Grandchildren
16 Great-Grandchildren
11 Great-Great-Grandchildren
Three – Half Sisters Missouri
One – Half-Brother California

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Foister, on September 26, 2006; and one great-grandson, Doug Melton, on January 23, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at the Edna United Methodist Church in Edna, Kansas with Masonic rites given by the Edna Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Church in Edna.

Memorials are suggested to the Edna United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.
