Jessie "Louise" Schneickert

Jessie "Louise" Schneickert, 90, of rural Altamont, died at 3:28 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2010, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

She was born September 28, 1919 at Seneca, Missouri to David Cruse Rakes and Jessie Vaud (Robinson) Rakes. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Parsons where she attended school until they moved to rural Altamont. She was a 1938 graduate of Labette County Community High School and also graduated from Parsons Business College.

She worked at the former Parsons Cold Storage and later at the Kansas Ordnance Plant during World War II.

She was married to George A. Schneickert on December 31, 1945 at Oswego, Kansas. He passed away on June 10, 1987. Following their marriage, while her husband served in the U.S. Navy, they lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Island of Bermuda, and Port Arthur, Texas. In 1954, they moved back to Labette County where they bought the old Hartwell Farm and had lived there since.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, bird watching and taking bus trips.

Survivors include, Two Sons: George Schneickert and his wife, Rochelle of Woodbridge, Virginia; and John Schneickert and his wife, Carolyn of Parsons. One Daughter: Betty Schneickert of Altamont. Four Grandchildren: Jonna Gabbert, Jaime Schneickert, Brian Schneickert and Kevin Schneickert. Three Great-grandchildren: Alissa, Alucian and Xander Gabbert.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m., Sunday, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
