Jewell K. Davis, 92, of Parsons, died at 9:55 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.

She was born February 24, 1918, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Arthur King Knight, Sr. and Delphia Mae (Buckner) Knight. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Coffeyville.

She and Joseph M. "Joe" Davis were married June 18, 1940. After marriage, the couple moved to Parsons where she was employed as a cook at Broadway Cafeteria and later the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. Following retirement from the PSH&TC, she worked as a cook for 25 years at the Youth Crisis Shelter in Parsons until retiring in 2009.

At the age of 62, Jewell earned her GED and food service supervisory certificate. She loved working with youth, serving her Lord, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a former member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Parsons where she served as mission president and also worked in the kitchen. She was a current member of the Parsons Foursquare Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Davis, November 22, 1970; twelve brothers; one sister; one son, Joseph "Joe, Jr."; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Davis; and one grandson, David Frederick Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at the Foursquare Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
