Jim F. Barney, Jr., 63, of Parsons, passed away at 6:58 p.m., Friday, July 4, 2008, at Labette Health following a brief illness.
He was born November 23, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, to Jim Francis Barney, Sr. and Loretta Jean (Allen) Barney. He grew up and attended school there. In 1963, he moved with his family to Parsons where he lived most of his adult life.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict in the Airmobile Engineers from 1968-1970. He later served 23 years in the 243rd Service and Supply Battalion at the United States Army Reserve Center in Parsons.
He and Judy A. Payne were married January 15, 1972, in Parsons. She survives of the home.
For many years, he loved building custom motorcycles and cars from his home. He also enjoyed aircraft of all kinds.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
