Jo Ann Moreau, 75, of Altamont, died at 6:22 p.m., Friday, July 4, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born November 18, 1938 in Sharon, Kansas to Benjamin and Iona (Byers) Slayden. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Wellington where she was a 1956 graduate of Wellington High School. Following high school, she attended Beauty College.
She and John L. Moreau were married August 31, 1956 in Wellington, Kansas. In 1966, they moved to Altamont where they owned and operated Altamont Downtown Cafe. In 1976, the couple moved to Lawrence, Kansas where they owned and operated the Airport Motel. While living in Lawrence, she also operated a nail shop. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2005. In 2012, Jo Ann returned to Altamont to be near family.
She was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Parsons. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, ceramics, and always enjoyed a good practical joke.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Jensen and her husband, James, of Lucasville, OH; four grandchildren, Christel Keeton, James Jensen, Shawn Moreau and Shannon James; four great-grandchildren including Zena Keeton who was raised in the home, Brittani and Brandi Keeton and Cooper James; one sister, Janice Dusher and her husband, Don, of Altamont, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Steven L. Moreau, on December 2, 1995, and Mark A. Moreau, on October 29, 1999; and a great-granddaughter, Jamie Keeton.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont or at the home of Don and Janice Dusher, 16012 US Highway 59, Altamont.
