Joan Long

M. Joan Long, 80, of Altamont, Kansas, passed away at 6:07 a.m., Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the Labette Health Emergency Room.

Martina Joan Weirich was born on February 9, 1939, to Glen B. and Laura Mae (Gear) Weirich in Galesburg, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Galesburg. Joan graduated from Labette County High School in 1957.

For many years, Joan worked in the stock room at Power Flame in Parsons until her retirement. She was a member and supporter of the Mirza Clowns. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

On March 30, 1968, she and H. Dean Long were married in Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2005.

Three Sons – Rod Long of Homer, Louisiana

Ron Caple of Parsons, Kansas

Matt Caple and his wife, Janet, of Calhoun, Missouri

Three Daughters – Cheryl Caple of Overland Park, Kansas

Janet Edmondson and her husband, Bob, of Grove, Oklahoma

Jenni Edison and her husband, Ed, of Wichita, Kansas

Eighteen Grandchildren

Seventeen Great-Grandchildren

Her Mother – Laura Mae Weirich

One Brother – Larry Weirich and his wife, Lavon, of Grove, Oklahoma

One Sister – Carolyn Treadway and her husband, Joe, of Grove, Oklahoma

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Dean Long, on April 12, 2005; and her father, Glen B. Weirich.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at the McCune Cemetery in McCune. The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the funeral home.
