Joe Ann Burris, 91, of Parsons, passed away at 8:28 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2026.
Joe Ann Collins was born in Parsons, KS to Orville Alando and Myrtle Alice (Amrine) Collins on November 30, 1934. She graduated from the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Pittsburg, KS in 1957 and worked as a nurse at the State Hospital in Parsons, KS as well as many nursing homes in the area.
She married Billy Joe Burris on August 20, 1958, in Parsons, KS and had three children. She was an avid gardener, painter and took pride in standing up for what she thought was right. She constantly did for others and, for those who knew her best, knew not to get in her way as she was one to get things done.
She is survived by a son and daughter: Billy Wayne Burris and Janet Lynn Burris both of Parsons, KS.
Four grandchildren: Seth Wayne Burris and wife Charity, Ethan Kyle Burris, Alicia Anne Burris, and Ashlee Dunn and husband Adam
Three great-grandchildren, Jase Kyle Burris, Xander Wayne Burris, and Danielle Lorraine Burris
Numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Joe Burris, her youngest son Daniel Scot Burris and eight siblings: Orville JR Collins, Bonnie Marie Collins, Hillard Collins, Helen Lareva Collins, Patty Louise Collins, Wilma Jean Collins, Raymond Collins and Ida Mae Collins.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
