Joene (Puryear) Pemberton

Joene (Puryear) Pemberton, 86, of Parsons, died at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her home.

She was born May 18, 1927 at Mounds, Oklahoma to William and Winona (Brunson) Puryear. At an early age, she moved to Florida and later to Detroit, Michigan. Her family settled in Springfield, Missouri where she graduated from Springfield High School and attended Business College for a short time before moving with her family to Parsons in 1944. After moving to Parsons, she was employed for 3 ½ years by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company prior to marriage.

In 1947, she and Roy F. Pemberton were married at the Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1999. For 24 years she worked as lead inspector for Quality Control at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant until retiring in 1991.

For several years she worked with the Girl Scouts. Joene enjoyed working in her yard and bird-watching, especially hummingbirds. She especially enjoyed taking care of her miniature dachshund, Darci.

Seven Grandchildren – Tiffany Rossman, Chad Pemberton, Darin Surridge, Dustin Surridge, Scott Ginn, Jason Pemberton and Ryan Pemberton

Thirteen Great-Grandchildren – Jozee, Mia, Elli, Reid, Ryleigh, Heston, Britanee, Morgan, Sydney, Madeline, Ali, Kaitlyn and Payton

One Great-Great-Granddaughter – Adeleigh

Two Step-Grandchildren – Michelle Flory and Jason Jones

Seven Step-Great-Grandchildren – Catherine, Emily, Madison, Quiency, Seth, Abbie and Kieson

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
