John A. Bebb, Sr. 79, of Altamont, passed away the morning of Sunday, December 11, 2022, at his home.

John Allen Bebb was born on August 21, 1943, to Ira J. and Evelyn Sargent (Snyder) Bebb in Falls City, Nebraska.  As a young boy he moved with his family to Claremore, Oklahoma.  When John was 14, the family moved to Stella, Nebraska, where he attended high school.

For a number of years, John worked at multiple farms and ranches across Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas.  He also worked as a service manager for three different John Deere dealerships in Kansas and Oklahoma.  Until he retired, John worked for Beachner Brothers as a livestock manager.  From 1995 to 2001, John and his wife, Connie, owned and operated Connie B's café in Altamont.  In his retirement, John operated Deere John's lawn care.

As a young man, he enjoyed bowling in multiple leagues and playing baseball.  He played semi-professional baseball in Rockport, Missouri.  As his own children were growing up, he coached little league baseball and softball.  When they were in high school, he was active in the Labette County High School Booster Club.

On December 26, 1961, John and Kay Beth Wheeler were married and had two children, Jerry Lynn and Laura Sue.  The couple later divorced.  On May 27, 1976, John and Connie Brewer were united in marriage in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and had two sons, John Jr. and Justin.  Connie preceded him in death on February 28, 2001.

Survivors include:

Three sons – Jerry L. Bebb and his wife, Sheryl, of Stella, Nebraska

John A. Bebb, Jr. and his wife, Carla, of Mound Valley, Kansas

Justin Bebb and his wife, Jennifer, of Altamont, Kansas

One daughter – Laura S. DeBoer and her husband, Gary, of Beatrice, Nebraska

Eleven grandchildren – Jeremy Bebb and his wife, Megan; Shelby Kriefels; Catrina Zentner and her husband, Cole; Tiffany Bish; Laci Roeber and her husband, Logan; Lance Armstrong and his wife, Shannon; Chase DeBoer and his fiancé, Kyla Slapnicka; Rachel Bebb; Kendal Bebb; Riley Bebb; and Kinsey Bebb

Sixteen great-grandchildren

One sister – Betty Plankinton of Columbus, Nebraska

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; one granddaughter, Jacie Bebb; one sister, Mary Ann Hoffman; one brother-in-law, Ray Plankinton.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.  Friends may stop by the funeral home to sign the register 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the USD 506 Foundation, Inc. to benefit the John and Connie Bebb FFA Scholarship.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
