John Wesley Bonine

John Wesley Bonine, 76, of rural Parsons, died at 12:02 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He had been in failing health for several months. He was born October 5, 1935 at Erie, Kansas to Clifford Lee Bonine and Ida Nona (Pierce) Bonine. He grew up and attended school at Erie and Parsons where he graduated from Parsons High School in 1953. Following high school, he entered the United States Army where he served for 22 years as a drill sergeant until retiring in 1974. Following retirement he returned to Parsons and worked at the Bush Hog plant at Galesburg and then the Grandview Products plant until retiring in 2001. He enjoyed raising quail and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family and his dog, Suzie. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling and football. He also enjoyed tropical fish. He was a Methodist. He was married to Belva Darlene Blacketer on December 25, 1961. They later divorced. Survivors include: One son, Virgil Bonine and his wife Donna of Williamsburg, Virginia; Five Daughters, Mary Lee and her husband Charles of Loganville, Georgia, Cynthia Lee of Parsons, Kansas, Pamela Dhooghe and her husband Don of Parsons, Becky Swofford and her fiance Chuck Hagan of Williamsburg, Virginia and Sheila Burcher of Williamburg, Virginia; Twelve Grandchildren; Eighteen Great-Grandchildren; Two Brothers, Clifford L. Bonine of Parsons, Kansas and J. Manford Bonine of Parsons, Kansas; Three Sisters, Olive Mary Frevele of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Beatrice Frevele of Pittsburg, Kansas and Margaret Bradford of Pittsburg, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Loyd and Joseph Lee Bonine. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at the East Hill Cemetery at Erie with Military Graveside Rites given by the United States Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
