John Brungardt, 82, of Galesburg, died at 12:24 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul. He had been in failing health.
He was born June 27, 1925, in Liebenthal, Kansas, to Frederick "Fred" Brungardt and Veronica (Legleiter) Brungardt.
He grew up and attended schools in LaCrosse, Kansas, and later moved with his family to Galesburg where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Navy Air Corps during World War II. Following his discharge, he moved to Wichita where he worked at the Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Company for twenty years. In 1970, he returned to Galesburg and operated a dairy farm for many years.
He was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church now St. Patrick's. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of the Rural Water District #4, and was past president and board member of the Twin Valley Electric COOP. He was a life member of the Brown-Bishop Post #704 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons, and a member of the American Legion Post #102 in Erie.
He and Evelyn Lortz were married on September 9, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in South Mound, Kansas. She survives of the home.

One sister – Helen Robinson Galesburg, KS
He was preceded in death by four brothers; James in infancy, Gilbert, Donald, and Francis; and one sister, Elsie Thill.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., and the parish rosary will be at 6:30 both Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery with military honors given by the Brown Bishop Post #704 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
