John C. Edwards

John C. Edwards, 91, of Chanute, and formerly of Erie, passed away at 4:40 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at Diversicare of Chanute.

He was born January 22, 1927 in rural Erie, Kansas at the family home to Mahlon and Nellie (Fleming) Edwards. He grew up in Erie where he attended schools and in 1944 graduated from Erie High School.

After high school, he began his lifelong vocation of farming. He also worked for Sohigro Service Company and Terra International for 21 years as a lead operator.

John was a member of the Erie Federated Church. He was also a member of the Neosho Farmers Co-op Association where he had served on the Board of Directors. He enjoyed raising draft horses and collecting horse-drawn farm equipment for several of his cherished Amish friends. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On February 17, 1946, he and Margaret B. Ramsey were married in the Erie Christian Church parsonage. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2002. On July 19, 2003, he and Roberta Jean Arnett were married. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2018.

Survivors include:

One Son – Royce Edwards and his wife, Gayla, of Erie, KS

One Daughter – Dima Craig and her husband, Thomas, of Camas, WA

Five Grandchildren – Justin, Darin, Ryan, Christina, and Tracy

Seven Great-Grandchildren

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Marion, Verl, and Loren Edwards; and one sister, Martha Reissig.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Erie Federated Church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Erie. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., prior to the service, on Wednesday at the church.
