John Richard "Dick" Volmer

John Richard "Dick" Volmer, 78, formerly of rural St. Paul, Kansas, died at 2:55 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at his home in Grove, Oklahoma.

He was born August 12, 1938 in Parsons to Joseph J. and Emily (Hall) Volmer.  He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1956.

On March 2, 1957, he and Dorothy Ann Vitt were married at St. Francis Church in St. Paul.  Mr. Volmer farmed and ranched in rural St. Paul until retiring in 2006.  Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Grove, Oklahoma.

He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed building doll houses and farm sets with barns. He donated many of these sets for fund raisers and church auctions, as well as gifts for his great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Volmer was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grove.

He was preceded in death by one son, Rick Volmer, a daughter-in-law, Cindy (Crager) Volmer, one great-granddaughter, Jacinta Schibi, and one brother, Murrell Volmer.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2107 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons.  Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.  The rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m., following the rosary.
