John R. Guyer

John R. Guyer, 86, of Parsons, died at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at his home.

He was born February 15, 1927, in Coldwater, Kansas to Charlie Marion and Alma (Nehrt) Guyer. He grew up and attended school at Wilmore, Kansas. During his senior year, his family moved to Wichita where he graduated from Planeview High School. He then attended Kansas State University where he earned two Bachelor's degrees. During World War II, he was enlisted in the V-5 Navy training program for carrier-based pilots.


He and E. Joyce Haselwood were married September 3, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas. For several years, he worked as a sales representative for International Harvester. In 1963, their family moved to Parsons where they made their home and have lived since. While living in Parsons, he worked for a time at Mobilfreeze Company.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons. He loved playing golf, studying genealogy and was a ham radio operator.

Wife – Joyce Guyer of the home
Three Sons – Kendall Guyer and wife, Lily Chicago, IL
Douglas Guyer Scottsdale, AZ
Curtis Guyer and wife, Sandy Purdy, MO
One Granddaughter – Tiffany Haynes and husband, Christopher
Two Great-Grandsons – Rowen and Liam Haynes

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, November 10, 2013, prior to the regular church service, at the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
