John H. Jones, 86, of Parsons, Kansas, took his last earthly breath on May 7, 2023, at 8:22 p.m., surrounded by his wife and children, who he loved and cherished.

John Harrison Jones was born November 27, 1936, on a farm in rural Labette County to Marion Willis and Frances Fern (Bowen) Jones. He grew up and attended school in rural Labette County.

In his earlier years he served as a police officer in Junction City, Kansas. Later, he owned/operated John's Sinclair Service Station in Parsons, until he went to work for the Katy Railroad. "John Henry" as he came to be known by his friends and co-workers, retired after many years as Brakeman/Conductor for the MKT Railroad.

He enjoyed building his large model train/city layout and collecting railroad memorabilia. John loved woodworking, gardening, vacationing and spending time with his family, especially his precious grandchildren.

John and Esther "Elaine" (Williams) Hughes were married in 1961 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Elaine preceded him in death in 2001. On November 13, 2004, John and Patricia "Pat" (Mitchell) Richards were married in Parsons, Kansas. She survives of the home.

19 grandchildren – Wesley Heenan (Morgan), Bryson Heenan (Lexie), Madison Faulkner, Lindsey Schulz (Nate), Collin New (Samantha), Angela James (Dan), Michael Kellogg (Karah), David Kellogg, Kimber Morris (Austin), Amanda Sudarsan (Satya), Randall Whittley (Malerie), Amanda Grissom (Monte), Rebecca White, Bobby Aragon (Kelly), Travis Aragon, Michael Richards (Brittney), Joshua Richards (McKenzie), Jessica Snipes (Justin), Brett Richardson (Jenny)

37 great-grandchildren with three more on the way.

Three siblings – Marvin Jones (Helen) of Parsons, Kansas.

Nick Jones (Betty) of Nixa, Missouri.

Karen Modica of Parsons, Kansas.

Many nieces and nephews. e was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Elaine; one son, Allen Richardson; two brothers, Robert D. Jones and David Jones; and two sisters, Marcia Reich and Genalee Collins.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
