John Rice, Jr., 72, of Edna, passed away at his home at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
He was born April 18, 1944 at Chetopa, Kansas to John E. Rice and Lillian G. (Oakley) Rice. John grew up and attended schools in Chetopa. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam for two years. For several years, John worked at the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita.
In earlier years, he loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed crocheting, riding motorcycles, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family! He attended the Christian Church at Mound Valley, Kansas and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
John was united in marriage to LaDonna F. Fletcher on December 31, 1970 at Wichita, Kansas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Rice, Jimmy Rice, Bill Hulse and Donald Hulse; one sister, Frances Atkins; an infant son, Jessie Dean Fowler; and a granddaughter, Shelbie Criger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa, Kansas. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
