John R. Pursley

John R. "Johnny P" Pursley, 85 of Chetopa, died at 4:00 pm, Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Chetopa Manor Nursing Home in Chetopa, Kansas.

He was born September 26, 1931 at Hallowell, Kansas to Ivan and Violet (Napier) Pursley.  He grew up and attended school in Hallowell.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Best on July 28, 1952 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2000.

Following their marriage they lived for a time at Faulkner,  Oswego and Bartlett.  In 1980 they moved to a farm near Chetopa where he lived until entering the nursing home.  He had run a dairy operation for many years.  He had also worked as a welder for the former Stephen's Manufacturing at Oswego for several years.  He had also served in the United States Air Force for 13 years.

John loved farming and raising livestock including his sheep and goats.

Four Sons:  Robert Pursley - Bartlett, Kansas

Roynald Pursley (Glenda) – Bartlett, Kansas

Rodney Pursley  (Joann) Chetopa, Kansas

Roger Pursley (Connie) – Bartlett, Kansas

One Daughter: Regina Clift (Jerry) – Skiatook, OK

Twelve Grandchildren

Several Great-grandchildren

One Sister:  Imogene Milliner – Joplin, MO

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, a daughter-in-law, Jan; and a grandson, Travis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Bartlett Christian Church.  Burial will follow at the Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett with military honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bartlett Christian Church and these may be left at the church or the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home
