John W. Raney

John W. Raney, 61, of Altamont, died at 4:40 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Via Christi – St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born at Louisiana, Missouri to Hurley L. and Viola R. (Joseph) Raney on October 29, 1950. The family lived in New Mexico for a time where his father worked for the US Bureau of Mines. In 1957, the family moved to Altamont where Johnie attended school. In 1966, while attending Labette County Community High School, he became employed under the CCC program where he worked as a custodian at LCCHS. He continued to work there until retiring due to health in 1999. Johnie loved being with his family, eating hamburgers and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: One Sister: Cherry Patton and her husband, Ed – Altamont, Kansas One Brother: Joe Raney and his wife, Jenny – Minneapolis, Kansas Three Nephews Two Nieces Three Step-Nieces Several great-nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday.
