John H. Shearhart, 78, of Oswego, formerly of Mound Valley, died at 11:40 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 13, 1931, in Mound Valley, Kansas, to Herschel C. and Mary E. (Fields) Shearhart. He grew up and attended school in Mound Valley and, as a young adult, moved to California where he lived several years before returning to Kansas in 1976.
He was employed by Unified School District No. 506 as head custodian at Labette County High School in Altamont for 17 years before retiring on June 30, 1994.
He was a member of the Mound Valley Lighthouse. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
He and Fina Sanchez were married February 1, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Shearhart and Bob Shearhart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Mound Valley Lighthouse. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
