John R. Spencer, 93, of rural Mound Valley, passed from this life at 7:20 a.m., Sunday, September 14, 2014 to be with his Lord and once again by his dear wife's side.
He was born September 25, 1920 near Tryon, Nebraska to Leo A. and Sarah E. (Cassens) Spencer. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska until moving with his family to Nevada, Missouri.
On October 23, 1945 he and Ruth Beydler were married near Wichita. Ruth, the love of his life, preceded him in death on August 10, 1987.
He was a member of the Angola United Methodist Church. He loved his church, family, and friends and loved talking to people about God; and close behind these, were his love for his grandkids, farming, camping, and traveling with his family.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Spencer and his wife, Lois (VanCleave), of Broken Arrow, OK; three grandchildren, Micah Spencer and his wife, Jen, Cherish Huntsinger and her husband, Curtis, and Zion Spencer and his wife, Abi; five great-grandchildren, Kale Spencer, Gabe, Eli, and Annabelle Huntsinger, and Liam Spencer; sister-in-law, Grace Brasher, of Sheldon, MO; brother-in-law, Roy Beydler and his wife, Marvye, of Lompoc, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Leon Spencer; three brothers, two sisters, and one great-grandson, Shepherd Isaac Spencer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Angola United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery, near Angola. Friends may call at their convenience from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
