Johnathan E. "John" Smith, 38, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and formerly of Mound Valley, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in Okmulgee.

John was born on January 29, 1983, to Jerold "J.D." Smith and Johnia (Brown) Franklin in Coffeyville, Kansas. He grew up in Mound Valley, attending Mound Valley Grade School and Labette County High School. He graduated from Oklahoma Union High School and then Tri-County Technical School in Tulsa.

For a time, John was an equipment operator for the Labette County Road and Bridge Department. He was currently employed as a CDL Driver for H.S. Field Services in Dewey, Oklahoma.

His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his son. He also enjoyed playing video games and working.

On August 12, 2002, John and Linda Melton were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

Michael Blasor of Parsons, Kansas

Jason Blasor of Wichita, Kansas

Four grandchildren

His mother – Johnia Franklin of Altamont, Kansas

His father – J.D. Smith of South Coffeyville, Kansas

Two sisters – Cynthia Kinser of Edna, Kansas

Julia Bentley of Altamont, Kansas

Two nieces – Virginia Kinser and Ember Kinser

One nephew – Talan Bentley

Maternal grandmother – Darlene Brown of Altamont, Kansas

Numerous cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by two uncles, Charles Smith and Larry Smith; his maternal grandfather, John Brown; his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Adaline Smith; and his mother-in-law, Kay Melton.

There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2021, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
