Johnny D. Sandusky

February 11, 1946 — October 18, 2025

Altamont

Johnny Dwayne Sandusky of Altamont went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 18, 2025, at the age of 79.  Johnny was baptized into Christ and was a member of the Christ Church of Labette County in Altamont.

Johnny was born February 11, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Pernal and Mildred (Cottle) Sandusky.  His family moved to Altamont in 1947, when he was only a year old.

Johnny was a 1964 graduate of Labette County High School, where he met the love of his life, Ellen.

Johnny was united in marriage to Ellen Kastler on March 12, 1965.  The loving union lasted 60 years, and they were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Shelley, Robyn, and Lisa.  They were his whole world.

In 1968, Johnny and Ellen moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where they met many lifelong friends.  During his time in Lawton, Johnny worked as a printer.  The family returned in 1977 and has been a part of the Altamont community ever since.  He worked as a printer at various places including Flesh Company, ParForms, and Vallis.  After his retirement, he worked part-time at Reliable Medical and drove a bus for USD 506 for 16 years.

He invested his time into the community of Altamont any chance he could.  Johnny loved spending time in his garage fixing anything whether it was for himself or anyone else.

Johnny and Ellen were BIG supporters of Labette County High School and attended many extracurricular events throughout the years.

In his spare time, Johnny was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He especially enjoyed coyote hunting on Saturday and Sunday mornings with his greyhounds.  Johnny also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids participate in their extracurricular activities from plays to sporting events to everything in between.  He enjoyed making beef jerky and sharing it with family and friends.

In the wintertime Johnny and his family looked forward to having the yearly Taffy Pull.  Johnny and Ellen also were avid card players.  His favorite games were Canasta and Pitch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa Sandusky; sisters, Rita Meeks and DonnaBelle Neal; and brothers Calvin, Burl and Vernon Sandusky.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Ellen; daughters, Shelley Pearce (Eddie) of Parsons; and Robyn Daniels (Terry) of Independence; brother, Ronnie Sandusky (Janet) of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Amber Shaughnessy (Jamie) of Altamont; Autumn Dickens (Brice), Aaron Pearce (Catherine), Anthony Pearce, and Starli Jones, all of Parsons; Amisha Daniels (Candice), Brittany Daniels, and Terra Daniels of Wichita; Haley Robb (T.J.) of Altamont; Kelsey Kellogg (Derek) of Littleport, England; A.J. Kohler of Columbus; John Kohler of Pittsburg; 14 great-grandchildren; and bonus son, Jeff Kohler (Teresa) of Hallowell.

We have an unmeasurable emptiness in our hearts, but the community and friends have wrapped us in the love of Jesus.  The Sandusky family will always treasure the love you have shared with us.

Johnny has left a lasting legacy on his family and has touched the lives of many people.  He was a man of integrity and taught his family to be honest and hardworking.  He provided, protected, and persevered for his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He never knew a stranger and was eager to help anyone in need.  He will be painfully missed by everyone who knew him.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Western Way Cowboy Church in Altamont.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to Ronald McDonald House or USD 506 to benefit the Labette County Grizzly High School Activity Fund.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
