Joseph V. "Joe" Hofer, Jr., 91, of Seneca, Missouri, and formerly of Greenbush, Kansas, died at 4:30 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at the Seneca House in Seneca, Missouri.
He was born September 6, 1923 in Parsons a son of Joseph V. Hofer, Sr. and Marguerite (Beachner) Hofer. He grew up in St. Paul, Kanas and graduated from St. Francis High School. He first began working at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons in the ambulance service. Later he worked as a truck driver and eventually owned and operated Hofer Trucking. He also owned and operated Hofer Truck Sales first in Girard and then moved the business to Pittsburg. He retired from truck driving and sales in 1975. He continued living on his farm in rural Girard, where he raised cattle and did custom farming.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and working his cattle.
Mr. Hofer was a member of the former St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush and current member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Michael's. He was a member of the Brazilton Ruritan Club, and served on the CO-OP board in Girard.
He and Lois Mae Pottorff were married on July 5, 1947 in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on February 17, 1987. He married Frieda Mahnken on Nov. 11, 1989, she preceded him in death on May 14, 2011.

One Sister:
Mary Clarkin Kansas City, Missouri
In addition to Lois and Frieda, he was preceded in death by a son Mark Hofer, a son-in-law, Tom Brown, and a brother Ray Hofer.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Greenbush.
The Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Michaels. The family will receive friends at 6:30, following the rosary.
The casket will be taken to the church at 1:00 on Monday.
