Joy D. Bortmes

Joy D. Bortmes, 87, of Oswego, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died at 6:00 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2012, at her home. She was born October 3, 1924, in Haskell, Oklahoma to Louis and Kelsie (Shinn) Hill. She grew up and attended school in Haskell, Oklahoma, and later earned a BSN degree from the University of Tulsa. After earning her degree, she worked for many years as a registered nurse. Through the years, she worked as a pediatric ICU nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and also as a school nurse for Tulsa District Schools until retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. She loved reading, playing bridge and attending church. She and Eugene M. Bortmes were married in 1941. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include: Three Sons – Dr. Phillip Bortmes and his wife, Kayley, Oswego, KS; Clifford Bortmes and his wife, Rita, Mounds, OK; David Bortmes, Oswego, KS; Three Grandchildren –Danielle Bortmes, Kristina Bortmes and Tyler Sparks. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Vernon Hill. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 1:00 p.m., on Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
