Joy Barnell Money

Joy Barnell Money, 40, passed away October 8, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.

She was born to Alex and Virginia Money on December 25, 1977, in Gallup, New Mexico. She was the only child born to this union.

As a child, Joy was always smiling and trying to communicate with her hands. At eleven months old, she had no teeth. Joy soon started cutting her teeth four at a time. Joy never did anything half-stepping. She was the child that had to have everything done her way, and it was. Joy graduated from Hinkley High School in Aurora, CO and attended the University of Southern Colorado at Pueblo.

Joy was a member of Bethsaida Temple Christian Church in Denver, CO. She was employed as a Collection Assistant at Alliance Data and her coworkers fondly remember her saying, "We can do this. We are number ONE!"

Joy loved spending time with friends and loved ones. She was vivacious and loyal to a fault. Her friends became her family. Joy dearly loved her mother and loved and cherished her god-children. She loved to read and debate, and being informed was important to her. Joy's most lasting impact on everyone was her smile.

Joy leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: her mother, Virginia Money (Denver, CO), aunts, Florentine Gilkey (Kansas City, MO), Patricia (Leon) Gilkey (Parsons, KS), Ceresta (Tony) Hill (Oklahoma City, OK); uncle, Max (Mary) Gilkey (Leavenworth, KS), great-great uncle, Charles D. Davis (Aurora, CO), siblings, Terry Money (Portland, OR) and Sherrie Money (Gallup, NM); and multiple cousins.

Joy was preceded in death by her grandmother, Xanthus Gilkey; her father, Alex Money; and her aunts, Lorine Dawson-Eason and B. J. Gilkey-Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
