Joyce K. Peterson

Joyce K. Peterson, 68, of Parsons, died at her home at 3:55 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2012. She had been in failing health for the past few months. She was born August 4, 1943 at Parsons, Kansas to Harrison R. and Mary B. (Farris) Stover. She grew up and attended school in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School in 1961. Following high school, she worked at her family's restaurant, the Hamburger Hut, to help put her brothers through college. She also worked for a time at the former Broderick's company in Parsons. Joyce lived in Parsons for her entire life and had operated a day care from her home for many years. She had always considered her day care kids to be like family. She had also worked as a greeter at Wal Mart for about 20 years. She was first married to Terry Kirk on December 3, 1964. They later divorced. She was then married to J. B. Peterson in 1972. They also later divorced. She enjoyed softball, bowling, doing word searches, sewing, cooking and being with her family. She had attended the Baptist church in earlier years. SURVIVORS: Two Sons: David Peterson – Parsons, Kansas Darin Peterson – Muscotah, Kansas One Daughter: Tammy Manues – Parsons, Kansas One Granddaughter: Kayla Manues Two Great-granddaughters: Avalynn Kay Manues-Keaton Paisleigh Jo Manues-Keaton One Brother: Harrison A. "Poke" Stover and his wife, Lynn – Lawrence, Kansas One Sister: Judith Mead – of the home; Numerous Nieces and Nephews In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to a fund for her grandchildren's education.
