Judy Gail (Winters) Merrick, 61, formerly of Mound Valley, passed away at 11:30 p.m., Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Regal Estate in Independence, Kansas, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on August 1, 1949, in Parsons, Kansas, to Herman and Marie (Greer) Winters. She spent her younger years in Parsons, and later moved to Mound Valley. She attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
Judy enjoyed gardening and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
She married Jerry Merrick, whom she later divorced, but has remained a close companion throughout her adult life.

One Daughter – Diana (Merrick) Yenni and husband LJ Raleigh, NC
One Son - David Merrick and wife Melanie Independence, KS
Stepdaughter - Tammy Piland and husband Johnny Osage, KS
Ten Grandchildren - Abigail, Hannah, Elizabeth, Olivia, Davis, Carson, Dylan, Katie, Matthew and Brandon.
One Brother - David Winters Mound Valley, KS
One Sister, Shirley Hanafin Wichita, KS
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Sonny, Jerry, Jimmy, and Randy Winters; and three sisters, Helen Britts, Jeanie Roberts, and Delores Schnoebelen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Mound Valley Christian Church. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Thursday, at the church.
