Karen S. Hanigan, 51, of Parsons, unexpectedly passed away at 7:55 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2022, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.
Karen S. Westhoff was born on January 22, 1970, to Charles Albert and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (VanLeeuwen) Westhoff in Parsons. Growing up on the family farm, she was never one to shy away from hard work. She attended St. Francis Catholic Church and St. Paul grade school. In 1988, she graduated from St. Paul High School.
Following high school, she attended Labette Community College. She worked at Living Skills, Prairie Mission Retirement Village and most recently at Exchange Insurance in St. Paul.
A devoted wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, her free time was often spent helping family and friends. She lovingly shared her generous spirit and her talent for organizing.
On August 3, 2007, Karen and Ernest D. "Ernie" Hanigan were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

Three brothers – Ed Westhoff of Chanute, Kansas
Joe Westhoff and his wife, Connie, of Olathe, Kansas
Bill Westhoff and his wife, Traci, of St. Paul, Kansas
Four sisters – JoAnn Stuchlik and her husband, Gary, of Pilsen, Kansas
Linda Morris and her husband, Bill, of Elberta, Alabama
Brenda Issa and her husband, Mike, of Wichita, Kansas
Julie O'Hara and her husband, Matt, of St. Paul, Kansas
Numerous nieces and nephews
Many aunts, uncles, and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
