Kenneth W. Smith, 73, of Parsons, passed away at 6:23 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society of Parsons.
Kenneth Wayne Smith was born on September 16, 1949, to Emmett Doc Smith, Sr. and Beatrice Stephenson Smith in Parsons, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up in Parsons, attending Douglass Grade School and graduating from Parsons High School.
Following high school, Kenneth served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the area, he earned an associate's degree from Labette Community College and Bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University. He worked in Parsons for a time, before moving to and living in Aurora, Colorado, for a number of years. After returning to Parsons, Kenneth worked for the city of Parsons.
In his earlier years, he attended Pleas Chapel, now Watson Memorial. He was a member of the American Legion. Kenneth enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include:
One daughter – Chrinda Smith of Dallas, Texas
Two brothers – Aaron L. "Skip" Smith and his wife, Deb, of Parsons, Kansas
Michael D. Smith, Sr. of Parsons, Kansas
Two sisters – Dorothy "Peaches" Dennis of Parsons, Kansas
Delores Dodd of Parsons, Kansas
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Alfred Abernathy, Emmett Doc Smith, Jr., and Marshall Lee Abernathy, Jr.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until the service begins at the funeral home.
