Larry L. Allen, 85, of Chetopa, passed away at 11:52 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his home.
Larry Lee Allen was born on December 30, 1938, to Vernon "Bus" and Mary Mae (Lucas) Allen in Chetopa. He grew up and attended school in Chetopa, lettered in all sports, and graduated from Chetopa High School in 1957.
Following high school, Larry moved to Wichita, where he worked at Boeing Aircraft.
On September 3, 1960, Larry and Shirley Joan Clark were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Chetopa.
In 1961, Larry was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Kitzingen, Germany.
In 1963, he returned to Chetopa and was employed by B.F. Goodrich in Miami, Oklahoma. In 1986, he was transferred to B.F. Goodrich plant in Alabama where he worked until his retirement in 1993, and then returned to Chetopa.
He continued to stay busy working at Midwest mineral, in Pittsburg, a butcher, in Columbus, and helping the local Chetopa community working alongside Lloyd McGill and Lloyd Nading.
Over the years he also served on the school board, he coached softball and baseball, deep sea fishing, and fishing the Red and Neosho River. He also enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends and cheering on KU basketball and Alabama football.

One son – Todd Allen (Melissa) of Grove, Oklahoma
One daughter – Teri McThompson (Lonnie) of Pittsburg, Kansas
Two brothers – Dickey Allen (Kathy), Fort Scott, Kansas and Randy Allen (Carolyn), Lawrence, Kansas
One Brother-in-law – Chester Clark, Jr.
Five Nephews – Mitch (Dawn), Jay, Lucas (Kelli), Lance, Russell (Katie)
Five Grandchildren – Lauren (David), Barry (Ryan), Abbie, Kristen (Matt), Mallory
Great-grandchild – Blake
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond "Satch" Allen.
Family Night will be Tuesday, September 24th, at the First Christian Church, Chetopa, KS, at 7:30
Services will be held at First Christian Church, 916 Maple St., Chetopa, KS at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 25th, 2024.
