Larry Wayne Barnes

October 22, 1936 — December 8, 2017

Plano

Larry Wayne Barnes, 81, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of Southeast Kansas, passed from this life into eternity on Friday, December 8, 2017.

He was born on October 22, 1936 in Cherokee County, Kansas to parents Homer Alvin Barnes and Maxine Lucille Harvey Barnes. He grew up in rural southeast Kansas and graduated from McCune High School.

On June 8, 1956, he married Barbara Allen at her home. They farmed in southeast Kansas for a year or so and then moved to Wichita. They started a family with three boys. Larry began working with Phillips 66 while in Wichita and his job took him and his family to Kansas City. While in Kansas City, their fourth child, a daughter, was born. Proudly, Larry and Barbara raised all four children and saw them graduate from college. A job transfer with Phillips then took them to Borger, Texas. Larry worked for Phillips 66 for 38 years.

While in Borger, Barbara passed away. The Lord then brought Gloria Fargo into Larry's life and they were married in 1998. Larry also retired in 1988 and enjoyed his retirement, woodworking and RVing.

He loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. He was a great supporter, encourager, listener, and a fabulous story teller. He volunteered his time to his church and Living Water (a local food bank).

In 2016, Larry moved to Plano to be near his son, daughter and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Mark Allen Barnes (Cyndi), Gary Dean Barnes (Diana K.), Brian Lee Barnes (Robin), Diane Kay Lemons, Scott Allen Fargo (Linda), Amy Elder (Chris); grandchildren Andrew Barnes (Sara), Shannon Bigelow (Josiah), Eric Barnes (Samantha), Jessie Diener (Michael), Sarah Barnes, Reid Barnes, Erin Lemons, Evan Lemons, Ally Lemons, Elizabeth Fargo, Cheyenne Elder, and Maya Elder; and one brother, William Barnes.

Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Lorna Ginder; wife, Barbara (Allen) Barnes; and wife, Gloria (Fargo) Barnes.
