Larry Dean Curtis, 74, a lifelong resident of Parsons, Kansas, passed away at 4:31 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 in the emergency room at Labette Health. He was born July 2, 1940 in Parsons, Kansas to Albert B. and Geneva (Hearson) Curtis. Larry was a 1958 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont and attended Labette Community College one year. On October 17, 1959, he and Judy Reynolds were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He then entered the United States Navy where he served six years. During that period, he was stationed on the aircraft carrier, USS Lexington, for two years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked at Boeing in Wichita before returning to Parsons where he began his career with the M-K-T Railroad as a carman. Larry painted the first green and yellow engine, and was later instrumental in painting the red, white, and blue engine to commemorate the bicentennial. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons. Larry enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia, postcards, and antique bottles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and being outdoors. Survivors include: Wife – Judy Curtis of the home One Son – Troy Dean Curtis Monroe, WI Three Daughters – Robie Martin and her husband, David Parsons, KS Tina and her husband, Ron Fugitt Springfield, MO Lori Curtis Parsons, KS Thirteen Grandchildren – John David Martin, Seth Martin, Mason Wiles, Molly Wiles, Mattie Wiles, Ashley Curtis, Lauren Curtis, Sami Curtis, Maggie Jo Curtis, Keaton Curtis, Gavon Strathe, Bradyn Holsinger, and Zackrey Haraughty Three Great-Grandchildren One Brother – Ronald B. Curtis and his wife, Bonnie Parsons, KS He was preceded in death by one sister, Pat Buske; and one granddaughter, Makayla Jane Haraughty. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to the Iron Horse Historical Society.
