Larry D. Garland, 81, of Oswego, passed away peacefully at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home.
He was born July 19, 1936 in Altamont, Kansas to Lawrence D. and Erma Louise (Cottle) Garland. Larry grew up and attended school in Oswego and was a 1954 graduate of Oswego High School. He then attended Parsons Junior College where he earned an Associate degree.
Larry served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Throughout his adult life, he worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center where he served as a nighttime supervisor for many years until his retirement in 1999.
He loved cruising yard sales and auctions looking for collectibles with his best buddy, Tristan. He also enjoyed spending time with his two favorite gals, Jaycee and Lori Atwood.
He and Phyllis Smith were married in 1957. They later divorced. He and Dorothy Nutt were married in 1982. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2010.

One Son – Dean Garland and his wife, Dianna, of Overland Park, KS
One Daughter – Gina Garland of Parsons, KS
Eight Grandchildren – Jeffrey Garland and his wife, Terra, Amanda Garland, Calvin Garland, Miranda Wright, Justin Thompson, Nolan Webster, Tyler Garland and Paiton Webster
Three Great-Grandchildren – Elisa, Jaxon and Logan
One Brother – Jerry Garland and his wife, Carol Jean, of Grand Island, NE
One Sister – Bonnie Booe of Cherryvale, KS
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Garland, on January 12, 1988; his mother, Erma Garland, on April 14, 1986; and one sister, Reva Harris.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
