Larry E. Troester, 85, of Parsons, passed away at 7:52 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Labette Health.
He was born on January 31, 1936, to William "Billy" and Audrey (Pefley) Troester in Altamont, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Altamont.
On June 4, 1955, Larry and Barbara L. Gamblian were united in marriage in Crown Point, Indiana. The couple made their home in East Chicago, Indiana, for a year before living in Davenport, Iowa for five years. In 1971, the family moved to Parsons, where Larry lived since. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for a refinery in Coffeyville for many years.
He attended Westside Christian Church. Larry was a beekeeper and enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and working around his home. One of his favorite hobbies was cooking, especially his homemade chicken and noodles which were everyone's favorite!

Two daughters – Rita Rettmann of Parsons, Kansas
Christy Stephens of Parsons, Kansas
Four grandchildren – Chelsi Campmier, Cody Stephens, Devin Larson and Angel Wolkey
Eight great-grandchildren – Ryleigh Schulze, Chase Schulze, Cody Armitage, Huntley Ayers, Lindsay Hearn, Bryson Mead, Alexis Leake and Tyler Leake
Four great-great grandchildren – Reese Mead, Layla Mead, Barrett Hearn, and Henley Hearn

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara, on June 26, 2016; one son, Larry "Gene" Troester; one grandson, Jerry Mead; one granddaughter, Amber, Leake; two brothers, Robert Troester and Perry Troester; and two sisters, Donna Bailey and Rema Francisco.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at East Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home to sign the register from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday. The service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.
