Laurel W. "Larry" Pearson

Laurel W. "Larry" Pearson, 94, of Parsons, died at 1:45 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.

He was born February 8, 1914, on a farm in Benton County, Minnesota, to Randolph Nelson and Mary Janette (Edwards) Pearson.

At the age of 10, he moved with his family to Montana where he graduated from Savage High School. In 1932, he moved to Missouri where he attended Chillicothe Business College for three years.

In 1935, he began working for Port Huron Company in Kansas City, Missouri, as a farm equipment sales representative, covering the southern half of the United States. He continued to live in Kansas City until 1947. At that time, he moved to Parsons where he had lived since. He retired from Port Huron Company, in 1979, following 44 years of service.

He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Old Timers C.B. Club. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed C.B. radios. For many years, he volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society.

He and Margaret Catherine Spalding were married. They later divorced. He and Janie Pearl Ogan were married September 21, 1946, in Olathe, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 20, 1991.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roland, George and James Pearson; one sister, Iyla West, one daughter, Mary J. Cosby; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic School Gymnasium in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
