Laveta M. Wass

June 24, 1930 — July 1, 2018

Parsons

LaVeta M. Wass, 88, of Parsons, passed away at 6:45 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

She was born on June 24, 1930 on the family farm in Neosho County to Glenn and Mildred (Robinette) Walker. LaVeta attended first through fifth grades at Excelsior country school, sixth grade through high school in Erie, and graduated from Erie High School in May of 1948.

Following high school graduation, she moved to Parsons where she worked at Hallmark Cards and First Federal Savings and Loan. While working in Parsons, she met William "Bill" Wass in December of 1948 and they were married on March 25, 1951 at the former Central Avenue Christian Church in Parsons.

She and Bill owned and operated the B&L Club east of Parsons, Wass Floral, and Wass Custom Combining before starting Wass Trucking in the mid 1980's which she was still actively involved in with their son, C.J.

She recently had attended the Cowboy Church in Lenapah. In earlier years, she was a member of Epsilon Nu Sorority, the Neosho Valley Good Sam RV Club, the Kansas Twisters RV Club, and had spent several years doing service work in Alcoholics Anonymous. LaVeta loved working with her husband, traveling in their motor home, spending time with their family, and working and laughing with "the guys." When on harvest, she cooked three meals a day for the crew, delivered the meals to the fields, drove the grain truck from the field to the elevator, and was fondly referred to by the crew as the "general flunky." LaVeta was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed mowing and knitting.
