Lavina Marie Luman

L. Marie Luman, 95, of Chetopa, died at 5:45 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Chetopa Manor.

She was born April 8, 1911 in Carthage, Missouri, the oldest of ten children, to Robert B. and Mary E. (Wiley) Tullis. She moved with her family to rural Bartlett, Kansas where she grew up and attended schools.

She and Gilbert A. Luman were married on June 24, 1934 in rural Bartlett. They lived in several cities before moving to Chetopa in 1951. They owned and operated a hardware store in Chetopa for 12 years. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1994.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and working in her flower garden.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chetopa.

Two sons- Carrol Luman Chetopa, Kansas
Loren Luman Ashland, Oregon
One Daughter – Ruth Carter Chetopa, Kansas
Twelve grandchildren, Twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Two brothers- R.A. Tullis Bartlett, Kansas
Verl Tullis Bartlett, Kansas
Two sisters- Bessie Carey Chetopa, Kansas
Leta Cunningham Weir, Kansas

She was preceded in death by five brothers, one son, and three grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at the Bartlett Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2007.
