Lee Randall Pate, 70 of Ogden, KS passed away January 19, 2025 at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS following an extended illness.
Lee was born on April 23, 1954 in Concordia, KS. He was born to Joseph Earl Pate, Jr and Mary Elizabeth (Ball) Pate.
Lee attended schools in Esbon, Phillipsburg, Bird City and Graduated from Clearwater High School in Clearwater, KS, Class of 1973.
Lee graduated from Mid-America Nazarene University in 1977, with Bachelor Degrees in Psychology and Sociology.
Lee Pate and Jann Salutz were married on April 7, 1990 at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, KS.
The Pate's moved to Oregon for Lee to attend Graduate School. He graduated from George Fox University, McMinnville , OR in 1998.
While in Oregon, two boys joined the family, Carter in 1996 and Carson in 2000. Lee taught the boys to love God and love their mother. He loved and was so very proud of these two men.
Lee has been employed at The Kansas School for the Deaf as a Dorm Parent, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Unit 6 Mental Health, Kansas City Christian Counseling Center, all in the Kansas City Metro Area. He briefly worked in Property Managenent while in school. After graduation, he worked at Connection Program, Salem, OR, Newport Nazarene Church in Newport, OR as Counselor/Compassionate Ministries Director, his favorite job of all time. He served as the Director of The Truman Center in Newport, OR until it closed. Lee moved back to Kansas to work the last nine years of his life at Ft. Riley, as a Military and Family Life Counselor. He loved working there, with soldiers, their families and several wonderful co-workers.
Lee has always been active in the local Churches of the Nazarene, wherever he lived. He was a Licensed Minister and was ordained as a Deacon in 2008. His ministries included Single Adults through Sunday School and SoloCon Midwest, Sunday School Teacher, Pastoral Counseling, Compassionate Ministries, Homeless Connect, Multi-Cultural Ministries for three ethnic groups, a backpack ministry to send food home over the weekend for school-aged children, After-School Program for K-6, Celebrate Recovery, Grief Share, and Small Groups. Lee could talk to anyone. He called himself a professional listener. He refused to interrupt someone while they were talking. When Lee spoke, everyone would listen because it was always full of quick wit or mature wisdom.
Lee is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Janice "Jann" (Salutz) Pate, sons Carter Lee of Overland Park, KS and Carson Joseph of Ogden, KS, his Mother, Mary Elizabeth (Ball) Pate of DeSoto, KS, sister Beth (Stan) Norman of Herrington, KS, and Joy (Marlan) Hoffman of DeSoto, KS, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, Jann's family, and way too many friends to list. We loved him dearly.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Joe Pate (87), and older brother Tiffin Joseph "TJ" (6).
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 26 at 2pm at Junction City Nazarene Church, followed by refreshments. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Inman, KS.
