Leta C. Webster, 91, of Parsons, and formerly of Altamont, passed away at 9:20 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2022, at Woodridge Estates in Parsons.
Leta Colene Palmer was born on March 7, 1930, to Fred W. and Edna L. (Landreth) Palmer in Altamont. She grew up in rural Altamont, attending Caldwell Elementary and Hyatt Country schools. In 1948, Leta graduated from Labette County Community High School.
After high school, Leta moved to Oswego and worked for Heflin Cleaners. After her marriage to Robert E. "Bob" Webster on September 14, 1951, in Cardin, Oklahoma, the couple lived in Aberdeen, Michigan, before moving to New Boston, Texas. They moved back to Oswego in 1956, and she worked at Heflin Sudden Services until 1969. The family moved to Sherman City until 2007, when they settled in Altamont. Over the years, Leta sold Avon and worked at the garment factory in Oswego.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oswego and Sherman; the Friendship Church in Oswego and most recently the First Baptist Church in Altamont.
Leta enjoyed writing and journaling and even had a story published. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and painting.
Survivors include:
Two sons – Robert E. Webster, Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Oswego, Kansas
Barry Webster and his wife, Gloria, of rural Parsons, Kansas
One daughter – Linda Shield and her husband, Bob, of Oswego, Kansas
Eleven grandchildren
Thirteen great-grandchildren
One brother – Fred Palmer of Santa Fe, New Mexico
One sister – Ann Bradshaw of Twin Falls, Idaho
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Webster, on July 7, 2008; one daughter, Debra Pierce, in April 1981; one grandson, Jonathan Webster; one brother, Loren Palmer; four sisters, Edith Glendenning, Beverly Williams, Loise Withrow, and Freda McMunn.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will follow at Sherman Cemetery in Sherman City. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m., Friday, until the beginning of the service.
