Lewis V. "Louie" Weidert, 86, of rural Parsons, passed away at 3:48 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at his home. He was born September 4, 1929 in rural Galesburg, Kansas to Pete and Minnie I. (Dringenberg) Weidert. As a young boy, Louie attended Fairview School and graduated in 1947 from Parsons High School. He then attended Parsons Junior College where he earned an Associate degree in 1949. In 1951, Louie entered the United States Army where he served until 1957. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Galesburg. On May 1, 1954, he and Helen L. Kuffler were united in marriage in Erie. They were engaged in farming and raising cattle for over 60 years. Louie also worked for over 30 years as a Hardy wood stove dealer. He attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons. He enjoyed square dancing and was a former member of the Swing and Twirl Square Dance Club. He also enjoyed music, playing cards, and board games. Louie always had time for his family, friends, and neighbors. Survivors include: His loving wife of 61 years – Helen Weidert of the home Two Sons – Terry Weidert and his wife, Peggy rural Parsons, KS Gary Weidert and his wife, Janelle rural Parsons, KS Six Grandchildren – Stacey Decker and her husband, Casey Tammy Hayward and her husband, Mike Kala Robinson and her husband, Reed Drew Weidert and his wife, Sarah Cory Wright and his wife, Kaci Jennifer Wright Ten Great-Grandchildren He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Weidert and Charles Weidert; and one sister, Viola Teague. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Friends may call at their convenience from noon – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hannah's Promise.
