Following high school, Lloyd went to Michigan and worked at a box factory, a truck farm and a dairy before returning to Parsons.  In March 1940, he moved in with his uncle, Dick Sperry, and learned the funeral business.

Lloyd and Irene owned and operated funeral homes in Mound Valley, Altamont and Chetopa.  In 1956, they moved to Altamont, where they lived until moving to Chetopa in 1974.  Upon their retirement in 1982, they moved to Grove, Oklahoma, where they lived until moving back to Altamont in July 2000. In 2005, they moved to Parsons.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons; a lifetime member of the Oswego VFW, a past member of the Altamont and Grove Lions Clubs, a past member of the Mound Valley and Altamont Masonic Lodge and former member of the Order of Eastern Star.  Lloyd also served on the Mound Valley and Altamont city councils.
