Lois Jean Schofield, 86, of Miami, Oklahoma, and formerly of Chetopa, Kansas, passed away at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at her home.

She was born March 17, 1932 in Chetopa, Kansas to Orville Ray and Sarah Lucille (Bellamy) Ridgway.  As a young girl, she grew up in Chetopa where she attended school.

On November 23, 1946, she and Glen L. Schofield were married in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Following marriage, the couple lived in Chetopa for eight years before moving to California where she worked for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.  They later moved back to Chetopa where she worked as clerk for USD 505 Board of Education.  She attended two years at Parsons Junior College where she earned an Associate degree.  She then attended Pittsburg State University for one semester but had to postpone her education due to her husband's health.  Her husband preceded her in death on January 12, 1990.  In 1991, she returned to Orange, California where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Theology.  While living there, Lois worked as an administrative assistant at her sister's escrow company.  She also worked for hospice and part-time at JC Penney and Macy's.  After retiring, Lois returned to Chetopa where she lived until moving to Miami, Oklahoma to be near family.

She attended the Community Bible Church in Chetopa.  She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Chetopa.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.

Survivors include:

One Son – Glen L. Schofield, Jr. and his wife, Cherie, of Miami, OK

Two Grandchildren – Jeff Schofield of Chetopa, KS

Wendy Schofield of Reed Springs, MO

One Great-Granddaughter – Delaney Schofield of Pittsburg, KS

Companion – C.B. Fritz of Chetopa, KS

Several Step-Grandchildren

One Brother – Tom Ridgway and his wife, Martha, of Chetopa, KS

One Sister – Millie Cork of Orange, CA

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Willis; an infant twin brother and sister; and two half-brothers, Jack Slusher and Orville Ridgway.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to Integris Hospice.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
