Loretta Kay Swenson, 83, of Parsons, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri.

Loretta Kay Schippert was born on May 20, 1942, in Colby, Kansas, to Paul E. and Mary L. (Kunz) Schippert. Loretta was a lifelong Kansan who cherished her roots and the bonds of family that defined her life.

Loretta grew up in Goodland, where she completed her education at Goodland High School, graduating in 1960. Her early years laid the foundation for a life marked by an unwavering work ethic and wholehearted dedication to those she loved. She spent ten years working diligently at Emerson Electric in Independence, Kansas, demonstrating both skill and commitment. Tragically, her career was cut short by a stroke that left her disabled, yet her spirit remained resilient and caring.

Known for her hardworking nature, Loretta was always ready to lend a helping hand, particularly in raising and supporting her nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her home was a gathering place, marked by warmth and nurturing affection. Her presence could be felt without her making a sound. She was gentle and soft-spoken. She was her family’s quiet place, steady support and what the family needed when they needed it. She took immense joy and pride in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Attending their activities brought her great happiness and became one of her most treasured pastimes. She was special to her family, and she made them feel special back. Beyond her own family, Loretta also adored her dog, Bean, who was a constant and faithful companion.

Loretta’s family remembers her as a lady of great strength, kindness, and generosity.
